Bill Banning Texting While Driving On Its Way To Texas Governor’s Desk
May 31. 2011 14:02 by
The Texas legislature passed a bill that would make texting while driving a misdemeanor punishable by a $200 fine and up to 30 days in jail, and if texting led to a car wreck that caused serious injury or death, the offense would be elevated to a Class B misdemeanor with a maximum punishment of up to 180 days in jail and a $2000 fine. The legislation includes email and instant messaging in the definition of “texting.” This law follows cities, such as Austin, that previously banned texting while driving.
Considering that driver inattention is one of major causes of car wrecks, this type of legislation is an important step in making our highways in Dallas, Fort Worth, and throughout Texas safer. Regardless of the new law, it is negligent to text while driving. As such, if you were injured in a car wreck because the other driver was texting, call the Austin and Dallas car wreck attorneys at Wilson Trosclair & Lovins today at 214-484-1930. Driver Killed In Car Accident Involving A Tow Truck
May 23. 2011 13:31 by

One person was killed and another was injured when the car they were in collided with a tow truck on Highway 360 in Arlington. At the time of the accident, the tow truck was in the southbound lanes of Highway 360 assisting another car with a flat tire. The car, which was reported to be driving at a high rate of speed, crashed into the rear of the tow truck. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and the passenger was transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center by helicopter. No other injuries were reported.
There are very specific regulations as to the appropriate warnings that must be provided to oncoming traffic when a tow truck is operating within the lanes of traffic. Failure to follow those regulations can create dangerous conditions that can lead to accidents, such as the one described above. The attorneys at WTL previously handled a similar case, where we argued that the tow truck driver failed to properly warn oncoming vehicles, including a young couple killed in the car accident. North Texans Need to Prepare For Longer Commutes Over The Next Five Years
May 16. 2011 11:08 by
If the daily commute on Interstate 635 wasn’t bad enough, North Texas commuters can expect construction delays for the next five years. HOV lanes from Central Expressway to Interstate 35 were already shutdown this weekend between Luna Road and Midway Road heading east and Midway Road and Joe Radcliff Pedestrian Walkway heading west. Additional HOV lanes will be shutdown throughout the summer for construction. The $2 billion construction project will consist of reconstructing frontage roads, rebuilding bridges, and the addition of new lanes. All too often these traffic delays result in numerous accidents due to driver inattention. Possibly the worse news for many commuters- the construction will at least partially be funded through the addition of toll lanes to I-35 and I-635. So, if our commute takes you across I-635, you may want to start planning for commuting delays followed by increased commuting expenses.
