Dallas Car Accidents and Texting: Proof of the Dangers of Distracted Driving
October 12. 2012 15:14 by

As Dallas injury attorneys, we know the dangers of distracted driving. Texting, eating, applying cosmetics - even talking to passengers can take your attention away from the road, resulting in disaster. Recently, news stories covered a woman who had an accident two years ago and is now speaking out about the dangers of texting and driving - 30 surgeries later.

Jamie Nash, now 29 years old, doesn't remember the text she was sending about two years ago when she lost control of her car, struck a culvert and flipped several times, eventually landing against a tree. She was pinned inside her car, which then caught fire. Nash was trapped in the burning car for more than 20 minutes, and suffered serious injuries. A patrol car which responded to the fiery scene captured Nash's screams on dashcam, which were filled with horror.

Nash says that she had been warned about the dangers of texting and driving, but like so many other motorists did it anyway, even when her children were in the car. According to Nash, she was the "ultimate multi-tasking mom." Her crash was nearly fatal; today, Nash is thankful that she didn't injure or kill anyone else in the crash.

Suffering 3rd and 4th degree burns over 70% of her body, Nash was not expected to survive. Thankfully she did and after 30 surgeries, is spreading the word about the dangers. Her simple message is, "Get off the phone, it can wait." Nash equates the dangers of texting and driving to those of drinking 4 beers and getting behind the wheel.

Today, Nash speaks of the dangers at businesses and schools and proudly displays her scars, an indication to others of what can happen when attention is taken away from the road.

Dallas personal injury lawyers know all too well what can happen when motorists engage in behaviors that can take the driver's attention away from what it should be focused on - safe driving. Thankfully in this situation, no others were injured, or even killed. If Nash had struck another vehicle or caused serious/fatal injuries to innocent victims, her life would likely have been very different today.

If you have suffered injuries because of the negligence of someone else, consult with a skilled Dallas personal injury attorney right away. You may be eligible for compensation of costs related to your injuries, including lost wages, medical expenses, pain and suffering, and more.

Texas Trucking Accident Kills Three People
July 31. 2012 12:58 by

A wrong way driver on Interstate 35 set off a deadly chain reaction early Monday morning. The events leading up to the deadly trucking accident began at around 3 a.m. Monday morning when a small sedan was spotted driving south in the Northbound lanes of I-35 in Schertz, Texas near San Antonio. The wrong way driver caused an initial car accident that resulted in only minor injuries. A tanker truck driver, however, failed to see the initial crash and drove through the car accident scene striking and killing two good samaritans that stopped to render aid in response to the first car accident. The other victim was the wrong way driver that caused the initial car accident. Five other individuals were taken to area hospitals for minor injuries. There is no word at this time if alcohol played a role in this horrific accident.

Horrific accidents such as this one come with complicated legal questions, such as who is legally responsible for the deaths and injuries to these innocent victims? Dallas Workplace Injury At An Industrial Bakery Supply Company
June 4. 2012 10:12 by

A Dallas worker was rescued yesterday after falling into an industrial mixer while on the job. The workplace accident happened at BCW Food Products on Denton Drive. It is not clear how the accident occurred. All that is known at this time is that the employee was working near a large piece of equipment that mixes flour prior to falling. What caused him to fall and whether there was appropriate fall protection equipment is uncertain. The piece of equipment had to be disassembled to remove the worker, who was at the bottom of the machine in between two sharp blades used to mix the flour. Further complicating the rescue is the highly flammable nature of the flour. Fortunately, the worker was rescued without incident and taken to Parkland Hospital. His current condition is unknown.

On the job injuries can happen anywhere. While it is uncertain in this instance what caused the accident, failure to follow or implement appropriate safety procedures, such as appropriate fall protection, causes a large majority of on the job injuries. Many workplace accidents can be avoided if a little common sense is followed.
