Rev. David Wilkerson, founding pastor of Times Square Church in New York City and author of the book
The Cross and the Swtchblade was killed in a car wreck in East Texas yesterday. According to reports, Rev. Wilkerson was driving east on U.S. 175 towards Jacksonville, Texas Wednesday afternoon when for unknown reasons he moved into the westbound lane of traffic and into the path of a tractor trailer. According to Public Safety Trooper Eric Long, the truck driver attempted to avoid the pastor’s car but was unable to do so, and the two vehicles collided head on.
Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela Mange said, “Wilkerson's car smashed head-on into a tractor-trailer rig after veering into oncoming traffic on U.S. 175 west of Cuney, about 95 miles southeast of Dallas.” Texas Department of Public Safety is reporting that Rev. Wilkerson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. Gwen Wilkerson, Rev. Wilkerson’s wife, was also in the vehicle at the time of the trucking accident. She was taken to ETMC and is in stable condition. The driver of the 18 wheeler was also taken to the hospital but is in good condition. For more on Rev.
